RESILIENT 305

Regarded as an international world-class destination, the Greater Miami region is a burgeoning hub for trade, logistics, health care, life sciences, international banking, finance and creative industries.  It is also the top tech start-up city in the nation and the leading business business hub for Latin America.  To ensure that we continue to grow and attract global investment and visitors, Resilient305 has built a strategy that will enable Greater Miami and the Beaches (GM&B) to more effectively tackle emerging global challenges and trends such as urbanization, globalization and climate change.

Welcome To

RESILIENT 305

Regarded as an international world-class destination, the Greater Miami region is a burgeoning hub for trade, logistics, health care, life sciences, international banking, finance and creative industries.  It is also the top tech start-up city in the nation and the leading business business hub for Latin America.  To ensure that we continue to grow and attract global investment and visitors, Resilient305 has built a strategy that will enable Greater Miami and the Beaches (GM&B) to more effectively tackle emerging global challenges and trends such as urbanization, globalization and climate change.

What Is Resilient 305?

This Resilient305 Strategy is a living document created to address regional challenges we identified and prioritized through intergovernmental and community collaboration. Throughout the process, GM&B engaged thousands of stakeholders to make sure it reflected the input from a wide range of expertise, ages, ethnicities, cultures, income levels and geographic areas. As our community continues to grow and evolve, the Resilient305 Strategy will encourage us to work together to better prepare for an increasing occurrence of shocks, such as hurricanes, and infrastructure failures, as well as to better mitigate stresses, such as sea level rise and sunny day flooding, crippling traffic and severe economic inequities. We hope that the Resilient305 Strategy will serve as a foundation in building a strong network focused on addressing equity gaps and elevating our vulnerable populations. We believe that together we have an opportunity to work differently and more effectively by promoting stronger leadership, closer collaboration, and better use of our resources.

What Is Greater Miami and The Beaches?

Greater Miami & the Beaches (GM&B) is a unique partnership of Miami-Dade County, the City of Miami, and the City of Miami Beach. We came together to lead development of our community’s resilience under the 100 Resilient Cities Network – Pioneered by the Rockefeller Foundation. Because the GM&B community is often referred to by our area code, “the 305” we thought it fitting that this document, GM&B’s collaborative resilience building strategy, be titled Resilient305. To ensure Resilient305 has broad impact, GM&B will continue to expand to include the remaining 32 municipalities, other community organizations and anchor institutions in implementation.

The Resilient

305 vision

Since its launch, the Resilient305 team has learned from the region’s grassroots, community, business and academic leaders some of the challenges that are most hindering our community’s ability to build and maintain a viable future for the people who call Greater Miami and the Beaches their home.
During this time, we listened to our community and have taken a stern look at the issues our residents said were most stressing the day-to-day of our population. Ranked highly among them: affordable housing, mobility, income inequality, sea level rise, climate change and health and safety.
Together with a diverse group of community leaders, we worked to bring forth creative solutions that will allow us to address these issues with innovation and ingenuity.
The Resilient

305 vision

The goal of Resilient 305 is to learn from local grassroots, community, business and academic leaders the challenges that were most hindering our community’s ability to build and maintain a viable future for the people who call Greater Miami and the Beaches their home.
Over many months, we listened to our community and have taken a stern look at the issues our residents said were most stressing our population. Ranked highly among them: affordable housing, mobility, income inequality, sea level rise, climate change and health and safety. Together with a diverse group of community leaders, we have been working to bring forth creative solutions that will allow us to address these issues with innovation and ingenuity.
In 2019, the Resilient 305 team will present the resilience strategy for the region that has been built through this collaborative effort.
